Every documented interaction between Larry Summers and Jeffrey Epstein in the EFTA corpus falls after the 2008 conviction. The scheduling emails reveal six years of dinners with Bill Gates, breakfasts at Summers' home, invitations to Little St. James — and Deutsche Bank payments to Summers' consulting firm. The victim journals tell a different story.
On the evening of May 2, 2011, Jeffrey Epstein's assistant Lesley Groff sent an email to household staff with the guest list for that night's dinner at Epstein's Manhattan townhouse. The attendees: Bill Gates, Larry Summers, and Jes Staley. Groff's assessment of the evening was two words: "Power dinner!!"1
Jeffrey Epstein had been released from his Florida jail sentence less than two years earlier. He was a registered sex offender. He had pleaded guilty to procuring a minor for prostitution. And on this Monday night, the co-founder of Microsoft, the former President of Harvard University, and the CEO of JPMorgan Chase's investment bank were sitting at his dining table.
The EFTA corpus contains no emails between Summers and Epstein from before the 2008 conviction. Every documented interaction — every breakfast, every dinner invitation, every scheduling email — falls between 2010 and 2016. What the documents reveal is not a friendship that survived a scandal. It is a relationship that flourished after one.
The Calendar
The scheduling emails between Epstein's office and Summers span six years. They read like the social calendar of old friends — because that is what they were.
January 8, 2012: Epstein emails Summers directly. "If you would like, next time in ny we can have dinner with Woody Allen at my house.. He is terrific and i am sure..."2 Summers replies from Jamaica: "Yes in Jamaica. Now. Back over weekend."2
January 19, 2012: Epstein to Summers: "Woody Allen dinner my house 29th?"3
January 27, 2012: Epstein to Summers: "dinner with woody moved to the 31st, if you have any interest, hope you are well."3
February 15, 2013: Epstein sends a message — to someone he calls "poppi" — that captures the social ecosystem in a single sentence: "poppi, Larry Summers, his wife, Woody ALLen and soon yi will be at the house in palm beach tomororw for lunch around 230. why don't you bring whoever you want."4
The former Treasury Secretary. The filmmaker. The convicted sex offender. Lunch at the Palm Beach mansion. Bring whoever you want.

The Power Dinner
The May 2, 2011 dinner was not a casual social gathering. Groff's emails reveal the planning behind it.
Days before, she wrote to Summers' office: "Good morning Larry. Jeffrey wanted me to let you know that on Monday night, Bill Gates will have already eaten dinner prior to his arrival... therefore, Jeffrey will order from the kitchen."5 The detail is telling — Groff was managing the dietary logistics of a billionaire philanthropist's late arrival at a convicted sex offender's home.
A separate email from Groff confirms the evening's significance: "Bill Gates, Larry Summers and Jes Staley are the attendees at the moment. Power dinner!! I do not know what Jeffrey wants for dinner. I will ask him tomorrow."1
The next day, January 9, 2012, someone on Epstein's staff sent a different kind of email about Summers and Gates: "IN the dining room there are photos of Bill Gates with Larry Summers taken at the house the other day, should I have someone take them down. or is he ok with competition."6
Photos of the world's richest man dining with the former Treasury Secretary at a convicted sex offender's townhouse, hanging in the dining room. The question was not whether the photos should exist — it was whether other guests might feel jealous.
Breakfast at Larry's
The relationship was not confined to Epstein's properties. Summers hosted Epstein at his own home.
Multiple scheduling documents record the same entry: "9:30 BREAKFAST w/Larry Summers at Larry's home."7 The emails include Summers' home address, his wife Julie's cell phone number, and detailed Google Maps directions from the Charles Hotel in Cambridge to Summers' house.7
These were not chance encounters at public events. Epstein was being flown by private jet to Bedford, Massachusetts, driven to the former Harvard president's home, and served breakfast. The scheduling emails treat this as routine.
On April 10, 2012, Groff sent Epstein a reminder: "Larry can no longer do breakfast on the 15th and is asking if you could meet..."8 The rescheduling of a breakfast between a convicted sex offender and a former Treasury Secretary was handled with the same administrative care as any other calendar conflict.
In April 2013, Groff emailed Epstein about persistent scheduling difficulties: "Below from Julie in Larry Summers office re you and Larry have not been able to connect yet... shall I provide the ranch phone number for Larry?"9 The ranch was Zorro Ranch — Epstein's New Mexico property, later identified as a site where victims were abused.
The Inner Circle
The scheduling emails place Summers in Epstein's most exclusive social tier. A handwritten list recovered from Epstein's files categorized his contacts into numbered groups. Summers appears alongside "ehud barak, tony blair, bloomberg" — heads of state and global power brokers.10
Epstein leveraged Summers as a social connector. In September 2012, Epstein emailed Boris Nikolic: "you can invite david rubenstein to lunch on monday with LArry summers and ehud barak."11 The former Treasury Secretary was being offered as a dinner companion to attract other powerful figures to Epstein's table.
The relationship extended to mutual travel invitations. In February 2011, Epstein emailed Summers: "ehud will be here for breakfast.. questions?"12 — inviting Summers to meet with Ehud Barak, the former Israeli Prime Minister, at Epstein's residence.
In December 2013, Epstein extended an invitation that is difficult to read without understanding what had happened on that island: "ehud is coming to spend time on the island, jan 23-25, want to join?"13 The island was Little St. James — where victims had been trafficked, abused, and held.
Summers' reply is not preserved in the corpus. Whether he accepted or declined the invitation to Little St. James in January 2014 remains unknown.
The Payments
Deutsche Bank records preserved in the EFTA corpus document financial transactions between Epstein and Summers' consulting firm.
The Deutsche Bank consent order — the same document that records $150 million flowing through 76 Epstein-related accounts — identifies a wire transfer on November 7, 2014: "$53,750" to "L H Summers Economic Consulting LLC."14 The wire details note: "Reference Kathy Ruemmler" — a reference to Kathryn Ruemmler, a former White House counsel who also served as a legal advisor to Epstein.14
Separate banking records show additional transactions to the same LLC.15 The entity's Deutsche Bank records total $38,233 in documented payments for "travel expenses."
The payments raise a question that has never been publicly answered: what consulting services did a former Treasury Secretary provide to a convicted sex offender? What "travel expenses" were being reimbursed? The amounts are modest by the standards of Epstein's financial empire — but they establish a documented financial relationship, not merely a social one.
The Harvard Corridor
Summers served as President of Harvard University from 2001 to 2006 — a period that overlapped with Epstein's donations to the university and his visits to campus. Epstein funded Martin Nowak's Program for Evolutionary Dynamics at Harvard with a $6.5 million donation. He cultivated relationships with Harvard faculty including Alan Dershowitz, who would later lead his legal defense.
But the Harvard connection did not end with Summers' presidency. In September 2016 — eight years after the conviction, one year before the #MeToo movement — Groff emailed Summers' office: "Good Morning Julie and Sarah! Jeffrey will be up at Harvard this coming Saturday Sept. 17th... he will be meeting with many interesting..."16
A convicted sex offender was still scheduling appointments at Harvard in 2016, and the coordination was still flowing through the former president's office staff.
In a separate email, Summers wrote to Epstein about channeling funds to academic institutions: "Can we find someone who wants to be humanistic and poetic, or needs to give money to public tv or Harvard ed, to channel in 2 million range."17 The former Harvard president was helping Epstein identify conduits for millions in donations to educational institutions — donations that served as social camouflage for a convicted sex offender.
The Journals
All of the above — the dinners, the breakfasts, the scheduling emails, the financial payments, the Harvard access — exists in tension with a single document.
Virginia Giuffre's handwritten victim journals — forensically authenticated through gel pen analysis and contemporaneous dating — name Larry Summers among the men she was directed by Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell to have sexual encounters with during her period of exploitation.18
A separate journal entry, on page 5 of EFTA02731420, is more specific. Describing being flown to Epstein's New York townhouse by a man named Dana Chasin on a small propeller plane, Giuffre wrote: "For being a Rockefeller that plane Mr. Dana had me on was scary! Both he and Larry Summers are fucking disgusting!"19
A Wigdor Law attorney letter, filed in March 2024, confirmed the identification: "Dana Chasin (Rockefeller's)" flew the victim to Epstein's NYC townhouse. The victim's family "knew Dana Chasin and that is how [victim] was flown to NYC the first time (where she had sex with Larry Summers)."19
The journals were written years before any of the post-conviction emails in the EFTA corpus. They are contemporaneous with the abuse. They are handwritten. They are authenticated. And they name a man who, a decade later, was still having breakfast at his own home with the person who orchestrated that abuse.
What the Calendar Proves
Larry Summers has never been criminally charged. He has never been named in a civil lawsuit connected to Epstein. He is protected by the 2007 Non-Prosecution Agreement's blanket immunity provision, which extends legal protection to unnamed co-conspirators. He has not publicly addressed the victim journal entries.
The EFTA documents do not prove that Summers committed sexual abuse. What they prove, with the granularity that only scheduling emails and banking records can provide, is that a former Secretary of the Treasury and President of Harvard University maintained an active, documented, financially compensated social relationship with a convicted sex offender for at least six years after his conviction — while being named in authenticated victim testimony as a participant in the abuse that conviction addressed.
The calendar does not lie. The breakfasts at Larry's house. The Woody Allen dinners at Epstein's townhouse. The Palm Beach lunches with Soon-Yi. The "Power Dinner" with Bill Gates and Jes Staley. The invitations to Little St. James. The wire transfers to L.H. Summers Economic Consulting LLC. The Harvard visits coordinated through Summers' office in 2016.
Every line on the calendar is a choice. And every choice was made after Epstein's conviction — and after Giuffre wrote what she wrote.
